Circumnavigation

Escalante

Hours and hours of four-wheel driving.  Me and the Cruiser were having an absolute blast.  Rod and I made the drive from town to a trailhead that led to a couple drastically different slot canyons. I felt like a little kid in a candy store running around all of this terrain.  There are no designated trails, so I was very glad to have Rod with me to show me the ropes of extended hiking in a desert climate.  Cairn to cairn with a few unplanned detours and roundabout hiking; we eventually made our way down the cliff faces into the basin. The canyons of interest were named Peekabo Slot and Spooky Slot, they were absolutely phenomenal! Extremely difficult to photograph though... so you should go see it for yourself! We said our farewells after reaching the trailhead again... I had a plan to get to Lake Powell and he had a plan to get to San Diego.  I made the turn toward BLM350, and saw a red jeep posted up! Rod and I ended up playing follow the leader for most of the day before we truly parted ways.  He towards his family for the holidays, and I to what would be the most phenomenal view of the entire roadtrip. A pretty incredible individual on a 25,000 mile journey with his pup to the arctic circle and back, cheers boss.
