Raleigh to Boone

Left Raleigh today.  Was kind of a last minute scramble throwing everything I wanted to take into the Land Cruiser. It all fit, but turned into quite the mess by the time I had gotten into Boone and set up the bed for the first time. I had set my hard leaving date for Wednesday and there was not a chance I wasn't getting on the road.  I stopped to see my mother on the way out. Then made my way to Boone to see a long time friend, Chris Lewis.  We drove through the Blue Ridge Parkway for about an hour, taking backroads here and there to arrive at the Viaduct.  A short hike later and we were standing on a rock formation above the road looking out on to the Appalachians.  All in all, a stellar first day on the road.
